I grew up with many animals. We had chickens, guinea pigs, mice, fish, frogs, birds, dogs and harness race horses. We had big dogs, small dogs, mixed breeds and purebreds. All I can remember is that the companionship of a dog was a big part of my growing up. Stonewall Labradors was started in 1994 when as an adult, I purchased my first Labrador, Mellie. I didn’t know much about Labs back then, I knew they were wonderful family dogs and had bountiful personalities. Mellie did a great job at teaching me what I wanted in a lab (and what I didn’t want!). Through her I was introduced to Competitive Obedience and Hunt Tests; both of which got me hooked into the sport of pure-bred dogs. I met some wonderful people from the LRC Southern California who took me under their wing.
Since then in my journey, I have been fortunate enough to have had some wonderful Labradors be part of my life and family. I compete in Conformation, Obedience and Hunt Tests with my dogs. I am in awe of the innate versatility of the Labrador Retriever breed. Check out our boy Buzz, CH Hunterleigh Tabatha Headline JH, CDX. Buzz is a wonderful example of the breed and has excelled in all areas of competition throughout his career. Buzz finished his Championship quickly with some notable wins. In 2006 Buzz completed 3 titles, CH- Champion of Record (Conformation/Breed), JH -Junior Hunter (Hunt Tests) and CD – Companion Dog (Obedience). He also earned the LRCSC All -around Labrador Retriever Award in 2006. He is my second dog to do so. He also was Best Hunting Retriever at the 2010 National show and also brought home a JAM. He was also a winner of the dogs of all reasons award. Recently through the process of reproductive science, Buzz sired a litter of service dogs for Canine Hope for Diabetics via frozen insemination. What an honor it is to own and train another versatile example of the Labrador Breed.
A few years later Gabby joined our home. Gabby too has racked up the points and finished her Championship quickly and in style. In her last 3 shows she went WB, BOS (Major), WB, BOS (Major) and the next day as a Champion she was BOSS at the Papago Labrador Retriever Club Specialty. What a fantastic finish! Thank you to Jane Wewer, Hunterleigh Labradors for trusting me with puppies from her wonderful line. Gabby has tested her skills in the whelping box and has passed along high hopes in her daughters Sparkle and Lexi. Sparkle finished her Championship going Winner’s Bitch, Best of Winners at the LRCSC Specialty Show. Then went Select Bitch the next day as a Champion! What a thrill that was for our family! And most recently, Sparkle’s son Willis is carrying on his mother and father’s winning ways in the show ring! He is a new American Grand Champion as well as a BOSS winner, Multiple Specialty JAM’s and Best Veteran! Bella’s son Maverick quickly earned his Championship, JH and RN titles! Recently he’s made his splash at Labrador specialty shows, going select dog at SDLRC and BOSS at the LRCSC Shows and JAM at SDLRC! He has also gone multiple BOSS, JAM and Select in multiple specialties. He is now a Grand Champion Bronze! Yay Mav!
First and foremost, our dogs are part of our family and have full access to the house and yard. All my dogs have working titles and represent the breed standard. I am an AKC Judge in good standing for Retriever Hunt Tests, board member and president of the LRC Southern California and a founding board member for the So. California Lab Rescue. I am also a member of San Diego LRC and on the board of directors of our national Labrador club, LRC Inc. I hope you enjoy my dogs, I sure do!
